Extracurricular Activities During the Holidays

Welcome back to our monthly blog post here at N2! How’s your holiday? Have you received any gifts? Still feeling as if it’s December, without all the workdays? Who are we kidding, we’ve already made it past half the first month of 2022! But if by any chance that you’ve felt sluggish after the new year, it may have been because you were hungover, or similarly, because you became used to having nothing to do, just lying around, binge-watching on Netflix with snacks. Chances are that your kids are going through the same thing.

Extracurricular activities are defined by how they fall outside the formal school curriculum, only ypursued voluntarily as a hobby or for personal reasons. They have gained a reputation and are commonly sought in most schools that offer clubs and after-school activities. It could also mean activities outside work or are not within your usual schedule. Whatever the definition of it is, what’s clear is its importance. It is recommended to get into an extracurricular activity during the holidays for the following reasons:

1. To maintain a good physique
The holidays can be an easy bait for you to lose your hard-earned progress. Giving up the thought of taking down the schedule temporarily, after months on the grind is tough, but slacking around isn't worth it! We recommend doing something that makes your heart pump and skin
sweat, and it isn’t watching horror movies or playing video games! You wouldn’t have to rebuild your momentum in being productive if you haven’t slacked at all, right?

2. To improve your knowledge and skills for future use
Participating in any activity will hone your skills in them respectively. Being knowledgeable in the right things and further developing your talents will always prove to be an advantage for you or your kids. If sports is their extracurricular activity, this can help them in landing a spot at their
school’s varsity team, or maybe they could learn a new dance step or new languages during their free time?

3. To socialize with other people
And like we said, free time. Holidays are, for most people, empty slots in their calendars. Extracurricular activities are a great way to find people who share the same interests. This serves as a great opportunity to practice socialization. These develop leadership skills, helps in developing trust in others, and ups your cooperation skills as well.

4. To improve mental health and create good habits
Studies show that engaging in extracurricular activities relieves stress and lowers the chance of anxiety and depression by raising the levels of “happy chemicals” within the participant’s body. Extracurricular activities are considered as a break from the “usual boring stuff”. And doing
activities with others helps people realize that they are not alone in the fight. Repeated participation in extracurricular activities helps to have higher self-esteem and become more proactive.

No matter the activity, what matters is that you and your kids have fun and create happy memories together healthily and productively! Looking to knock the dust off your shoes on a specific date?
